Depression

People experiencing depression are often heard to express themselves like this: “I feel sad all the time – and I don’t know why. I don’t enjoy anything the way I used to, I feel hopeless, helpless and exhausted.”
It is normal to feel sad, low, self-critical, irritable, unhappy, have trouble concentrating or lack motivation – from time to time.
Feelings of loss or dejection can impact on your ability to do your regular activities.
Depression does not generally result from one event – but from a number of different factors and events. Depression is more than a low mood – it is a serious problem, and can affect a person’s quality of life, both physically and mentally.  It can bring feelings of helplessness and hopeless, and may lead to suicidal thoughts.
Experiencing these emotions does NOT mean you are weak.
Fortunately, there is good news – and YES, depression is treatable!
If you are having thoughts of hurting yourself or others – or of ending your life, please contact Lifeline on 131114 urgently. You are also able to talk with your Doctor about your feelings. If you require urgent/immediate help – please call 000.
